XHHV515-8L Low Voltage Surge Generator | Cable Fault Locator
XHHV515-8L is a portable high voltage surge generator built for impulse discharge during cable fault testing, and it can also be used for DC withstand voltage testing of other electrical equipment. It integrates a DC high voltage source, an energy storage capacitor and a discharge ball gap into a single cabinet weighing no more than 25kg, completely replacing a traditional test transformer, operating box and pulse energy storage capacitor that together weigh hundreds of kilograms. It fully meets DL/T846-2016 and DL/T474-2017, making it an ideal instrument for power cable fault detection.
Designed For: Industrial plant and industrial park electrical maintenance departments, cable installation and fault-repair contractors, railway and metro power supply units, and high voltage equipment service workshops that need a light, portable impulse source for cable fault location and DC withstand voltage testing.

Core Features
Automatic over-current, over-voltage and overheat protection keeps every test safe.
Provides both DC withstand voltage and impulse discharge functions in one unit.
High voltage pulse output is uniform and fully controllable.
Super strong short-circuit protection allows the high voltage output to be shorted directly to ground and still work normally.
Dual 1.5-level pointer meters display current and voltage clearly, reflecting the discharge process in real time.
High voltage side voltage measurement, real time and accurate.
Zero start protection and potentiometer zero output function for safe, reliable operation.
Unique high voltage measurement design: the voltmeter indicates the capacitor voltage in real time even in the stopped state.
Discharge time can be set freely within a suitable interval.
Working Principle
DC Withstand Voltage Function
Powered by AC 220V, the instrument outputs a smooth 0–10kV DC voltage and applies it to the cable or equipment under test to verify insulation strength before commissioning or after a repair.
Impulse Discharge Function
The pulse generator produces DC high voltage pulse signals for fault detection of power cables of 10kV and below. It is composed of a charging circuit and a discharging circuit: the high voltage cable voltage is sampled and fed to a voltage-stabilizing control circuit, and the impact magnet organically combines the DC high voltage supply, the energy storage capacitor and the high voltage discharge ball gap for fault testing and acoustic-magnetic synchronized fault point determination.
Humanized Operation
To retain the familiar habit of using a transformer and operation box to produce DC high voltage, the pulse generator adopts a humanized operation mode with start / stop buttons, a voltage adjustment knob, an over-current protection switch, a time-setting control and dual pointer meters, making it safe, reliable and easy to operate.
FAQ
Q1: Who is the XHHV515-8L high voltage surge generator designed for?
It is designed for industrial plant and industrial park electrical maintenance departments, cable installation and fault-repair contractors, railway and metro power supply units, and high voltage equipment service workshops that need a light, portable impulse source for cable fault location and DC withstand voltage testing.
Q2: What functions does the instrument provide?
The instrument performs two core functions in one portable unit: DC withstand voltage testing and impulse (shock) discharge testing for power cable fault location.
Q3: What are the key output specifications?
It delivers an impulse voltage of 0–15kV, a short-circuit current of 0–320mA and a discharge power of 0–900J from an 8μF built-in capacitor, with a class 1.5 high voltage divider and negative output polarity.
Q4: How does it replace traditional cable fault test equipment?
It integrates the DC high voltage source, energy storage capacitor and discharge ball gap in one cabinet weighing no more than 25kg. This completely replaces a test transformer, operating box and pulse energy storage capacitor that together weigh hundreds of kilograms.
Q5: What safety protections and standards are included?
It includes over-current, over-voltage and overheat automatic protection, zero start protection and super strong short-circuit protection, and it fully meets DL/T846-2016 and DL/T474-2017.
