XZH TEST launches the XHSB505B cable identifier for live and de-energized power cable field maintenance.
XZH TEST announces the official launch of the XHSB505B Cable Identifier, a portable field-testing instrument developed for power utility technicians and field contractors. Designed to resolve identification challenges within dense multi-cable ducts, this unit supports both live-cable identification and de-energized cable identification, helping operators locate target cables accurately and prevent safety hazards caused by cable mis-identification.
Based on the electromagnetic induction principle, the XHSB505B system consists of a transmitter, transmitting clamp, handheld receiver and receiving clamp. The transmitter generates special pulse signals with a pulse cycle of 2.75 seconds. Two output voltage levels are selectable: Mode I (150 V) for de-energized direct-connection testing and Mode II (250 V) for live coupling testing. The instantaneous pulse current ranges from 0 A to 10 A.
The transmitter is powered by a built-in 12 V DC lithium-ion battery and features an analog ammeter that shows real-time output status. Its special pulse signal and selectable output levels allow the operator to match the instrument to the site conditions, whether the cable is energized or de-energized.
The handheld receiver runs on two AA batteries, and users can adjust signal gain via the built-in knob. Identification judgement relies on pointer deflection direction together with audible beep prompts: a synchronized pointer swing and a cyclic “beep-beep-beep” alert confirm the target cable, while irregular or weak pointer movement indicates a non-target cable.
The transmitting clamp provides a Φ125 mm jaw opening, while the receiving clamp supports cables up to Φ200 mm outer diameter — suitable for large-size conductors. During live-cable measurement, the transmitting clamp and receiving clamp shall keep more than a 2-metre separation.
In de-energized direct-connection mode, the test covers circuit resistance from 0 Ω up to 1 kΩ. For live coupling identification, the applicable circuit resistance ranges from 0 Ω to 50 Ω, requiring reliable grounding at both ends of the cable sheath.
