The XHGG502A cable fault tester adopts an industrial-grade 10.1-inch touch-integrated computer with a simple operating software interface, enabling human-machine interactive testing. It uses industrial-grade integrated circuit design and an embedded operating system to achieve signal filtering, acquisition, data processing, graphic display and graphic analysis, completing cable speed measurement, cable length test, cable fault distance test and resistance test.
This cable fault tester is a special instrument for measuring and analyzing the condition and fault distance of power cables. It is suitable for low-resistance, short-circuit, open-circuit and disconnection faults of power cables, high-frequency coaxial cables, street light cables and buried wires of various materials, cross-sections and media, as well as high-resistance leakage and flashover high-resistance faults.
Work mode: TDR (low voltage pulse), ICE (Impulse current), ARM (Arc reflection method) with coupler configured.

Based on the traveling wave principle, the XHGG502A applies pulse signals to the cable under test and captures the echoes reflected at the fault point where the characteristic impedance changes, converting the reflection time into a precise fault distance. Four testing methods are integrated to cover faults from low resistance to high-resistance flashover:
| Testing Method | Working Principle | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|
| Traveling Wave Method | Applies pulse signals and captures echoes at impedance-change points, converting reflection time into fault distance. | Core ranging principle covering all cable fault types |
| Low-Voltage Pulse Method | Injects 300V low-voltage pulses and analyzes reflected waveforms to measure cable length, wave velocity and fault distance. | Open-circuit, low-resistance, short-circuit and disconnection faults |
| High-Voltage Flashover Method | A DC high-voltage source triggers flashover discharge at the fault point; the sampler captures the reflected signal for distance calculation. | High-resistance leakage and flashover faults |
| Multiple Pulse Method (8 Times) | The pulse coupler guides instantaneous high-voltage pulses to the faulty phase and extends the arc duration, displaying 8 groups of high- and low-voltage waveforms for comparison. | High-resistance flashover faults on long-distance cables up to 120km |
| Application Scenario | Typical Applications |
|---|---|
| High-Voltage Transmission Cable O&M | Pre-locating flashover and high-resistance leakage faults on 66kV and above long-distance transmission cables with the multi-pulse method |
| Thermal & Hydropower Plants | Testing plant auxiliary and outgoing power cables to minimize forced outage time |
| Wind & Solar Farms | Locating faults in long feeder and collector cables across wide, hard-to-reach terrains |
| Large Industrial Parks | Testing medium-voltage distribution cables feeding factory zones without interrupting production lines |
