The XHGG502A adopts the traveling wave method testing principle. When an electromagnetic wave travels in a transmission line and encounters a point where the characteristic impedance changes, a reflected signal is generated; the polarity of the echo at the short-circuit point is opposite to that of the transmitted pulse, while the polarity of the echo at the open-circuit point is the same, allowing the operator to judge the fault nature and calculate the fault distance:
| Testing Method | Working Principle | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|
| Traveling Wave Method (TDR) | Applies pulse signals and captures echoes at impedance-change points, converting reflection time into fault distance. | Core ranging principle covering all cable fault types |
| Low-Voltage Pulse Method | Injects 300V low-voltage pulses and analyzes the reflected waveform to measure cable length, wave speed and fault distance. | Open-circuit, low-resistance, short-circuit and broken-circuit faults |
| High-Voltage Flashover Method (Direct Flashover / Impulse Flashover) | A DC high-voltage power supply breaks down the fault point, or a high-voltage pulse signal source impulse-discharges the fault point; the sampler receives the fault reflection signal. | High-resistance flashover faults and leakage high-resistance faults |
| Multiple Pulse Method (8 times, with Pulse Coupler) | The integrated high-voltage generator and multiple pulse generator guide instantaneous high-voltage pulses to the faulty phase through the pulse coupler, displaying 8 sets of high and low voltage waveforms for comparison, effectively avoiding large cosine oscillation interference. | High-resistance faults on long-distance and high-voltage cables, especially 66kV and above transmission cables |
The instrument provides cable engineers with a comprehensive solution for power cable fault pre-location, helping minimize outage time through rapid and accurate fault distance measurement.
