The XHGG501B cable fault pre-locator, also known as a cable fault tester, is a portable and essential tool for locating faults in cables efficiently and accurately. This cable fault tester is a special instrument for measuring and analyzing the fault status and fault distance of power cables. It is suitable for low-resistance, short-circuit, open-circuit and disconnection faults of power cables, coaxial cables, street light cables and buried wires of various materials with different cross-sections and different media.

Work mode: low-voltage pulse method and high-voltage flashover method (direct flash method and impulse flash method).

Working Principle and Testing Methods

Based on the TDR (time domain reflectometry) principle, the XHGG501B applies a pulse signal to the cable under test. When the electric wave travels in the transmission line and encounters a point where the characteristic impedance changes, a reflected signal is generated and displayed as a waveform. The polarity of the echo at the short-circuit point is opposite to that of the transmitted pulse, while the polarity of the echo at the open-circuit point is the same, which allows the operator to judge the fault nature and calculate the fault distance:
