When the high-voltage signal generator applies impulse voltage to the fault cable, discharge at the fault point generates both acoustic and electromagnetic signals. The electromagnetic signal propagates at near light speed, while the acoustic signal travels at approximately 340m/s through soil. The XHDD503B measures the time difference between these two signal arrivals. As the operator moves the sensor along the cable path, the point with the minimum acoustic-magnetic time difference indicates the exact fault location directly below. The system supports both automatic calculation and manual waveform analysis, with a maximum measurable time difference of 80ms.
