XHSB505DS Cable Identifier | PSK Live & De-energized Identification for Plant and Pipeline Cable Works
The XHSB505DS cable identifier is a dual-mode instrument that tells you exactly which cable is which before anyone opens a joint or cuts a conductor. It identifies the target cable among dozens of parallel cables using PSK pulse-width coded signals, in two ways: clamp coupling for energized three-core armored cables without interrupting service, and direct connection for de-energized cables and long metallic lines. It also works as an AC voltmeter (0-600V) and an AC clamp meter (0-5000A) through its flexible coil, so one kit covers identification, verification and routine measurement.
Target Audience: Electrical maintenance and engineering teams of oil, gas and petrochemical plants, refinery and LNG terminal contractors, and cathodic-protection pipeline operators who must positively identify power cables, communication cables and CP test-point lines before cutting, jointing or rerouting, and who cannot afford a wrong cut on a live circuit in a hazardous area.

Why Plant and Pipeline Teams Choose This Identifier
- Energized identification by clamp coupling: no contact with live conductors, no service interruption, ideal for three-core armored cables in process areas
- De-energized direct connection covers power cables, communication cables and cathodic-protection pipeline test points over up to about 10km
- Directional PSK signal with calibration rejects parallel neighbouring cables, eliminating guesswork in congested cable trenches and trays
- Non-contact AC current measurement up to 5000A with the Φ200mm flexible coil suits large conductors and odd-shaped busbars
- AC voltage measurement up to 600V (CAT III) doubles as a safe multimeter for pre-job checks
- Rugged toolbox-style transmitter withstands about 200kg pressure; whole kit weighs only 4.44kg
- Clear green √ / orange × result with beep works even with thick work gloves and in noisy plant areas
- Each unit ships with factory calibration, CE certification and 12-month warranty
How PSK Technology Identifies the Target Cable
The XHSB505DS uses PSK pulse-width coded signals instead of a simple tone. The transmitter injects a coded, directional current into the target cable; the receiver's flexible coil reads the code, the current level and the current direction at every cable in the trench or duct, then compares each reading with the calibration value taken at the known near end.
- Calibration: clamp the near end of the target cable, press ENTER to store the reference current and direction
- Judgement criteria: a cable is the target only when its current is 75%-135% of the calibration value, the direction arrow points forward, and the signal is above 0.2mA
- Clear result: target cable shows a green √ icon with a beep; non-target cables show an orange × icon, no beep
- Energized identification (clamp coupling): frequencies 625Hz / 1562Hz / 2500Hz / 10000Hz; 2500Hz covers most jobs, 1562Hz for stronger interference, 625Hz for long-distance runs
- De-energized identification (direct connection): frequencies 1562Hz / 2500Hz; works on 0-10kΩ loop impedance, typically 0-10km of cable
- Directional detection rejects neighbouring cables running in parallel, which is where most wrong cuts happen

FAQ
Q1: Who is this cable identifier designed for?
Electrical maintenance and engineering teams of oil, gas and petrochemical plants, EPC contractors for refinery and LNG projects, and cathodic-protection pipeline operators who identify cables and CP lines before cutting, jointing or rerouting.
Q2: Can it identify a cable without switching it off?
Yes. In energized mode the transmitter clamp couples the PSK signal onto a three-core armored cable without touching conductors, so identification is done without interrupting supply. Both ends of the cable sheath must be well earthed, and the loop resistance should be below 200Ω.
Q3: How far can de-energized identification reach?
In direct-connection mode the transmitter injects the signal into the cable core against earth, detecting loop impedance up to 10kΩ, which typically covers 0-10km depending on earthing resistance and cable impedance. This also works on communication cables and cathodic-protection test points.
Q4: How do I avoid cutting the wrong cable in a congested trench?
Calibrate on the known near end of the target cable, then test every cable at the far end. Only the target shows a green √ with current between 75% and 135% of the calibration value and the correct direction arrow; parallel neighbours show orange ×. When in doubt, repeat with the de-energized method.
Q5: What are the commercial terms and after-sales support?
MOQ is 1 unit with T/T payment. Stock orders ship in 5-8 working days; bulk orders in 15-25 days. We provide OEM labeling, training documentation, 12-month warranty and direct technical support from the Xi'an factory.
