XHSB505DS Cable Identifier | PSK Live & De-energized Identification for Plant and Pipeline Cable Works

The XHSB505DS cable identifier is a dual-mode instrument that tells you exactly which cable is which before anyone opens a joint or cuts a conductor. It identifies the target cable among dozens of parallel cables using PSK pulse-width coded signals, in two ways: clamp coupling for energized three-core armored cables without interrupting service, and direct connection for de-energized cables and long metallic lines. It also works as an AC voltmeter (0-600V) and an AC clamp meter (0-5000A) through its flexible coil, so one kit covers identification, verification and routine measurement.

How PSK Technology Identifies the Target Cable

The XHSB505DS uses PSK pulse-width coded signals instead of a simple tone. The transmitter injects a coded, directional current into the target cable; the receiver's flexible coil reads the code, the current level and the current direction at every cable in the trench or duct, then compares each reading with the calibration value taken at the known near end.

  • Calibration: clamp the near end of the target cable, press ENTER to store the reference current and direction
  • Judgement criteria: a cable is the target only when its current is 75%-135% of the calibration value, the direction arrow points forward, and the signal is above 0.2mA
  • Clear result: target cable shows a green √ icon with a beep; non-target cables show an orange × icon, no beep
