Product Description
Intelligent Burn Through Bridge | Traction Power Cable Fault Pre-Location for Rail Networks | XHSC-60QXHSC-60Q

Railway and metro traction power cables run long, large-section routes through tunnels, bridges and cross-bonded sections, often terminated at GIS switchgear. The XHSC-60Q was designed for exactly these systems: its 60kV burn-through with up to 400mA arc current converts high-resistance and flashover insulation faults into measurable low-resistance faults, and the 750mA digital bridge and cross-section modes then deliver the fault distance with ±(0.1%·L+1)m accuracy over up to 50km, without dismantling GIS terminations or opening cross-bonding links.

Target Audience: Railway and metro traction power supply departments, substation and cable maintenance crews, and rail electrification contractors that pre-locate insulation faults on 35kV-110kV traction power cables, tunnel feeder cables and cross-bonded cable systems with GIS terminations, where repair windows are short and a wrong guess is not acceptable.

XHSC-60Q intelligent burn through bridge for railway metro traction cable fault location
Built for Traction Cable Networks
  • Pre-locates faults on long, large-section traction cables up to 50km without dismantling GIS switches or shorting cross-bonding links
  • 60kV negative DC burn-through with 400mA arc current handles the tough high-resistance and flashover faults found on aged track-side cables
  • Bridge and cross-section modes with up to 750mA test current deliver stable readings on high-capacitance large-section cables
  • No blind zone: reliable on short tunnel cables and faults near terminations where reflectometry struggles
  • Intelligent diagnosis decides automatically whether to burn through or range directly, guiding less-experienced shift crews
  • Automatic discharge and emergency stop, plus protective-earth detection, meet strict rail site safety practice
  • Sunlight-readable display, 100-record history and USB firmware upgrade simplify depot maintenance
  • Wheeled trolley case (22kg, IP54) moves easily along platforms, tunnels and cable routes
Smart Diagnosis: One Workflow from Fault Type to Pre-Location

Instead of guessing the fault nature first, the XHSC-60Q runs an automatic intelligent diagnosis at up to 60kV and tells you exactly what to do next. This is how the built-in workflow decides the fastest route to the fault distance:

Diagnosis Result Automatic Guidance
Low-resistance fault (impedance shown) Go directly to bridge mode or cross-section mode for distance measurement
High-resistance fault (impedance shown) Raise the test voltage and retest, or start burn-through directly
Flashover below 3kV, current stable above 20mA after breakdown Go directly to bridge mode or cross-section mode
Flashover above 3kV, or current unstable / below 20mA Run burn-through first, then pre-locate
Impedance within safe operating range Cable passes; no fault found

In burn-through mode the unit outputs up to 60kV with a 400mA arc current to carbonize high-resistance and flashover faults into stable low-resistance faults. With the intelligent burn-through function enabled, the test stops automatically as soon as the fault impedance drops to the level required by the ranging modes, instead of running the full preset time. The bridge accuracy can be verified on site with the supplied bridge test box (33.3% reference line) whenever a suspicious reading appears.

  • One-key automatic operation: the unit diagnoses, burns and pre-locates without complex menu work
  • Automatic wiring check with protective-earth detection prevents unsafe starts
  • Automatic discharge at test end; emergency stop button cuts HV output instantly
  • Up to 100 history records stored for bridge and cross-section results
  • 320x240 dot-matrix LCD readable in direct sunlight
FAQ
Q1: Who uses the XHSC-60Q in the rail sector?
Railway and metro traction power supply departments, substation and cable maintenance crews, and rail electrification contractors use it to pre-locate insulation faults on 35kV-110kV traction power cables, tunnel feeder cables and cross-bonded cable systems with GIS terminations.
Q2: Can it locate faults without opening GIS terminations or cross-bonding links?
Yes. The bridge and cross-section methods only need access at the cable ends and a low-resistance shorting lead at the far end, so faults are pre-located without dismantling GIS switchgear or breaking cross-bonding links, which saves hours of possession time.
Q3: Why is burn-through needed before ranging on traction cables?
Track-side cables often fail as high-resistance or flashover faults that carry too little current for stable bridge readings. The 60kV/400mA burn-through carbonizes the fault point into a low-resistance fault; intelligent burn-through then stops automatically as soon as the impedance is low enough for accurate ranging.
Q4: How accurate is the distance result on a 10km cable?
Location accuracy is ±(0.1%·L+1)m, so on a 10km cable the expected uncertainty is about ±11m, after which a pinpoint method confirms the exact joint or defect. The bridge test box supplied lets crews verify ranging accuracy on site.
Q5: What support do rail customers get?
MOQ is 1 unit with negotiable pricing and T/T payment; delivery takes 8-10 working days with 200 units/month capacity. Units are CE certified, covered by a 12-month warranty, and backed by training, calibration guidance and spare parts from the Xi'an factory.
