Product Description
XHGG501E Cable Fault Pre Locator

The XHGG501E is a portable, industrial-grade cable fault pre locator that measures the distance to faults in underground power cables using the traveling wave (TDR) method. Built around a 10.1-inch touch all-in-one computer and an embedded operating system, it integrates the low-voltage pulse method, the high-voltage flashover method and the multiple pulse (8-times) method in one instrument, so field crews can pre-locate low-resistance, short-circuit, open-circuit, disconnection, high-resistance leakage and flashing faults on power cables, high-frequency coaxial cables, street-light cables and buried wires of various materials and sections.

Applications & Target Audience
Built for cable fault location and emergency repair service teams, third-party cable fault detection providers, and municipal underground power grid and street-lighting maintenance units, as well as railway, metro and industrial plants that must locate buried cable faults quickly on site.

Three Test Methods, One Instrument

Different cable faults call for different test signals. The XHGG501E combines three proven methods in a single unit, so one instrument covers almost every on-site pre-location scenario without extra equipment.

Method How It Works & When to Use It
Low-Voltage Pulse Method Applies a low-voltage pulse and analyzes the reflected waveform to pre-locate low-resistance and open-circuit faults quickly and safely.
High-Voltage Flashover Method Uses a high-voltage pulse or DC source to make the fault point flash over and discharge, generating a reflected signal for high-resistance leakage and flashing faults.
Multiple Pulse Method (8 Times) Works with a pulse coupler to display 8 groups of high- and low-voltage waveform comparisons for automatic distance measurement and manual analysis of complex faults.

With an optional pulse coupler, the multiple pulse method helps separate the true fault echo from interfering reflections on long or heavily branched cables.

FAQ
Q1: What types of cables and faults can the XHGG501E locate?
It pre-locates low-resistance, short-circuit, open-circuit, disconnection, high-resistance leakage and flashing faults on power cables, high-frequency coaxial cables, street-light cables and buried wires of various materials and sections.
Q2: How far and how accurately can it measure?
The distance measurement range is (up to) 65km with a minimum resolution of 0.10m, a test blind area of 20m or less, and a measurement error of no more than (0.5% x L + 1m), where L is the cable length.
Q3: Which test methods does it support?
It supports the low-voltage pulse method, the high-voltage flashover method and the multiple pulse (8-times) method, all selectable from the touch-screen interface.
Q4: Can it work without mains power on site?
Yes. A built-in 5200mAh lithium battery charges in about 2 hours and supports more than 5 hours of working time, so testing can be carried out in a power-free environment.
Q5: How are test results stored and exported?
The instrument stores more than 8,000 low-voltage pulse and high-voltage flashover waveform records and exports waveform files to computer software for management and analysis over USB.

Note: It is strictly forbidden to connect AC 220V power when running high-voltage flashover or multiple pulse sampling tests.

Used this cable locator for 4 months on DEWA utility projects. Works well even in 45°C summer heat — no overheating issues. Depth readings accurate, multiple frequencies helpful for busy urban areas. Battery lasts full shift.Overall: Solid value for money. Recommended for utility and construction teams in Gulf region.

Bhai, this pulse generator is total game changer for our discom team. Six months heavy use across Uttar Pradesh — heat, dust, monsoon humidity, still going strong. Fault detection is spot on, saves us hours of digging every time. Build is tough, no-nonsense. And the price? Forget those fancy foreign brands charging 3x more. This is proper value for money. Our linemen love it. Must buy for any electricity department. Jai power!
