The XHBB128B is compatible with virtually all transformer types including standard three-phase and single-phase power transformers, distribution transformers, Z-type (zigzag) transformers, rectifier transformers, grounding transformers, electric furnace transformers, phase-shifting transformers, and balance transformers. The instrument supports wiring groups 0–11 with automatic identification and can measure tap changers with up to 99 positions, including asymmetric tapping configurations.
Traditional ratio testers use single-phase mains power which contains harmonic distortion that affects measurement accuracy. The XHBB128B uses a self-made three-phase precision inverter power supply as the measurement source. This eliminates mains harmonic interference entirely, providing consistent ±0.1% accuracy. When the working power source is a generator (common at remote substations), the measurement quality is completely unaffected since the test voltage is independently synthesized.
Yes. One of the key diagnostic capabilities of the XHBB128B is detecting inter-turn short circuits in transformer windings. When a turn-to-turn short circuit exists, the effective turns ratio deviates from the rated value. The instrument measures the actual ratio with 0.0001 resolution and compares it against the expected value, flagging any deviation that exceeds the normal tolerance. Combined with the instrument's built-in inter-turn short circuit protection during testing, it provides both diagnostic capability and operational safety.
After entering the rated high and low voltage values, equal tapping level (e.g., 1.25% for a 110 ± 8 × 1.25% transformer), and tapping type (number of positions), the instrument automatically calculates the expected ratio for each tap position. During measurement, it compares the measured ratio against all calculated positions and accurately identifies which tap the changer is currently set to. This works even for transformers where the rated tap position is not at the center point, and for asymmetric tapping configurations where the voltage relationship is non-linear across positions.
