Dielectric breakdown voltage (BDV) testing measures the voltage at which insulating oil loses its insulating properties and allows electrical current to pass through. Transformer insulating oil serves as both an electrical insulator and a cooling medium. As oil ages or becomes contaminated with moisture, particles, or dissolved gases, its dielectric strength decreases. Regular BDV testing is a critical preventive maintenance practice that helps detect oil degradation before it leads to transformer insulation failure, enabling planned oil replacement or reconditioning rather than emergency repairs.
The XHYY102 comes pre-programmed with four standard test methods: GB507-1986 and GB507-2002 (Chinese national standards for insulating oil dielectric strength), DL/T429 (Chinese electric power industry standard), and IEC156 (international standard for insulating oil breakdown voltage). A fifth customizable mode allows users to define their own test parameters. This multi-standard capability makes the instrument suitable for both domestic Chinese testing requirements and international applications.
Conventional oil BDV testers measure the breakdown voltage on the low-voltage side of the step-up transformer and calculate the high-voltage value through a ratio conversion, introducing errors from transformer ratio inaccuracies and analog signal conditioning. The XHYY102's unique high-voltage side sampling design measures the test voltage directly at the output, routing it straight into the A/D converter. This eliminates all intermediate analog conversion errors, resulting in more accurate and repeatable ±3% overall accuracy.
The XHYY102 series is available in single-cup, three-cup, and multi-cup configurations. Single-cup models are ideal for occasional testing or field service where portability and cost are priorities. Three-cup models increase throughput by allowing sequential testing of multiple oil samples without opening the compartment between tests, suitable for routine laboratory use. Multi-cup configurations maximize productivity for high-volume testing such as transformer manufacturing QC and independent testing laboratories. All configurations share the same core measurement technology and accuracy.
Each XHYY102 ships as a complete kit including the main test instrument, special glass oil cup(s) per selected configuration, power cable, grounding cable, thermal printer paper, and user manual. Standard delivery time is 5–8 working days. The compact portable design (465×385×425 mm) is packed in reinforced packaging.
