Product Description
XHYZ1668T On-Load Tap Changer Tester| Three-Phase Synchronization Analyzer

The on-load tap changer is the only moving part connected to the transformer circuit, and OLTC faults are a leading cause of transformer unplanned outages. The XHYZ1668T lets plant electrical teams measure the transition waveform, transition time, instantaneous transition resistance and three-phase synchronization of transformer on-load tap changers during routine preventive maintenance, without sending the transformer to a workshop. The instrument is intelligent, compact and light (6.15kg main unit), with a 7-inch screen, 20kHz sampling and storage for 500 groups of data so that maintenance history can be compared over time.

Applications & Target Audience: Engineered for electrical maintenance departments of wind farms, solar plants, mining operations, petrochemical facilities and large manufacturing plants that operate power transformers with on-load tap changers and need routine OLTC preventive testing with minimum downtime and without external testing services.

Advanced Features
  • High output current (1.0A) with a lightweight main unit of only 6.15kg
  • Tests YN, Y and Delta connected transformers with resistance values displayed directly without conversion
  • Supports both with-winding and without-winding measurement methods
  • Waveform display automatically adjusts resistance and time amplitude according to sampled values
  • Complete protection circuit for high reliability in field use
  • 7-inch high-brightness LCD with clear menu-driven operation for on-site work
  • Built-in storage for 500 groups of test data with query and print functions
  • High-speed built-in printer plus USB and RS232 interfaces for data export
  • 20kHz high-speed sampling captures every detail of the OLTC switching waveform
  • With-winding test method avoids lifting the transformer cover, so most checks are done with the unit in service position
  • Strong anti-interference design for reliable measurement in substation and plant environments
Measurement Methods for Every Winding Connection

The XHYZ1668T adapts to the connection of the regulating winding under test, so plant teams can follow the correct wiring and conversion rules:

Connection TypeMethod & Conversion
YN / Y with neutral led outThree-phase test; resistance displayed directly without conversion
Y type, neutral not led outTwo-phase method using the third phase as neutral, R = 1/3 R' (single-phase method R = 1/2 R')
Delta type windingTwo-phase method, R = R'; single-phase method R = 2/3 R'
Without-winding testTest leads connected to X1/Y1/Z1 (A1/B1/C1) with short-circuit links to X2/Y2/Z2 (A2/B2/C2)

When testing with the winding connected, the non-tested side of the transformer must be three-phase short-circuited and grounded, and the instrument ground terminal must be reliably earthed before any voltage is applied. Note that with-winding action time is approximately 3-7ms longer than without-winding action time — a normal difference, not a fault.

FAQ
Q1: Who is the XHYZ1668T intended for?
It is intended for electrical maintenance teams of wind farms, solar plants, mines, petrochemical plants and manufacturing facilities that operate OLTC-fitted transformers and want to run preventive tap changer tests in-house.
Q2: Can the test be done with the transformer windings connected?
Yes. The with-winding method tests the tap changer through the transformer winding. The non-tested side must be three-phase short-circuited and grounded, and the instrument ground terminal must be reliably earthed before testing.
Q3: How does it help detect OLTC problems before a failure?
The waveform analysis reveals typical defects such as aging quick-action springs (slow mechanism), broken or shorted transition resistors and loose selector connections. Storing up to 500 groups of data lets maintenance teams compare waveforms from previous years to spot degradation trends.
Q4: Is the instrument suitable for field use by plant electricians?
Yes. The 6.15kg main unit, 7-inch high-brightness LCD, complete protection circuits and clear menu operation make it practical for on-site use, and the built-in printer produces test records on the spot.
Q5: What warranty and technical support are provided?
Every unit comes with a 12-month warranty and lifetime technical support. Remote troubleshooting guidance and operator training are available to help plant teams master OLTC waveform testing quickly.
